A place in QF for both teams via the ‘Best 3rd place team’ route
Tie. Durham had a faint chance to qualify in the ‘Best 2 of 3rd placed teams of each group’ slot – though the margin had to be quite high, which was not easy. Perhaps the team knew it well – and no wonder they lacked the motivation to hit “just 6 runs off 6 balls with 5 wickets in hand”. A win is a win, no matter what and Durham did not set a good example by timidly settling for a tie.
2
Hampshire v Essex
Nothing for Hampshire (they had already qualified as 2nd team with no hope of 1st place)
A loss would have sent Essex out of contention
Match abandoned due to rain – and Essex scrapes through to QF.
Had Essex lost the match, they would have had difficulty in qualifying for next stage
3
Middlesex v Kent
Inconsequential match – neither had a chance to qualify
Kent
4
Northamptonshire v Gloucestershire
A place in QF for Gloucs
Gloucestershire won comfortably by D/L method. A no result would have placed them on the edge, while a loss would have thrown them out of the race
5
Nottinghamshire v Leicestershire
Table Top position for Notts if Yorkshire loses to Derbyshire
Notts beat Leics, but Yorkshire did not lose and Notts stay put at #2
6

Surrey won, at last! And Sussex continue to rule the table.
